Safety
Clear rights-of-way are essential for maintaining the safety and reliability of the power grid. Right-of-ways burdened with personal property, such as fences, sheds, or other obstacles, pose an immense threat to the safety of GVEA crews and significantly slow down power restoration efforts during outages.
Trees and branches near power lines pose significant risks, including power outages, fires, and serious injury. It’s critical to avoid touching power lines or trees in contact with them, as they can conduct electricity and cause harm. If you notice a tree posing a threat to power lines, contact a licensed contractor to safely remove it and coordinate with GVEA to temporarily disconnect the line if necessary. Always report trees touching or dangerously close to power lines to GVEA immediately to prevent hazards and ensure the safety of the community and the efficiency of restoration efforts.
